Montrose Police to Add New Patrol Officers

Montrose, CO — The Montrose Police Department will add two new officers to its ranks at a swearing-in ceremony scheduled to occur during the City Council’s regular meeting on Tuesday, December 3. The public is welcome to attend.

Officers Jace Cline and Chelsey Payne will receive their badges from Montrose Police Chief Blaine Hall in the City Council Chambers located at 107 S. Cascade Avenue. The ceremony will be held during the first part of the City Council meeting, which begins at 6 p.m.

Cline and Payne began their hiring process in spring 2019, having since completed a police academy program, and are set to begin approximately three months of additional fieldwork with a training officer. Cline and Payne are both Montrose locals and will be assigned to the department’s Patrol Division.

“We are very excited for them to join the team,” Montrose Police Commander Matt Smith said.

The department is looking to add more officers and will be stepping up its recruitment program in 2020.

Montrose City Council meetings are held on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers. All council meetings are open to the public and regular meetings are broadcast live via the city’s television channels 191 (Charter) and 970 (Elevate). Meetings can also be viewed online at CityofMontrose.org.
