Montrose, CO — The City of Montrose is pleased to announce the opening of the new roundabout at the intersection of Miami Road and Hillcrest Drive. In addition to the new roundabout, contractors have also completed an asphalt overlay of Hillcrest Drive between Miami and Sunnyside Roads as part of the Moving Montrose Forward Street Maintenance efforts.
Final cleanup work will be taking place along shoulders of the roadway over the next several weeks but no additional closures to through traffic are expected. The project was completed on schedule and under budget. A ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate its completion will be held at the project site on Montrose September 23, 2019. The public is invited to attend.
Since beginning construction in April, the roundabout project has included:
• Clearing of the site, and the removal of the old roadway.
• Replacement and upsizing of an aged waterline and pressure regulator station, relocation of sanitary sewer mainlines, irrigation mainline relocations, and construction/replacement of new storm drain inlets and piping.
• Relocation of overhead power and fiber optics below ground, relocation of communications utilities in conflict with the project, and installation of new street lights.
• Concrete sidewalk, pavement, curb and gutter, concrete paving, asphalt paving, striping, signage, and landscaping of the center island.
The center island landscaping also includes electrical infrastructure that will allow for the area to be decorated during the holidays.
The city would like to express a special thanks to the residents of Montrose for their patience throughout the construction project. The city would also like to thank the general contractor K&D Construction as well as major subcontractors and project partners to include: Distel Contracting, Bernhardt Construction, Bull-Basin Construction, Rainmaker, Asphalt Specialists, DMEA, CenturyLink, Charter, Del-Mont Consultants, and DOWL for the help in making this project a great success.
