Police Make Arrest In Burglary Case
Montrose, CO — The Montrose Police Department has made an arrest in connection with several recent burglaries in our community.
Jeremy Vieth, 35, was taken into custody on May 31 on charges related to three recent burglaries in Montrose. The burglaries, which were reported to the Montrose Police Department on May 6, 20, and 24, were being actively investigated at the time of Vieth's arrest. Veith has been charged in connection with incidents at the Sunset Mesa Youth Sports Complex, a local church, and an office building in the City of Montrose. The items stolen at these locations amounted to felony level theft. In addition, Veith is charged with burglary in the second degree, possession of burglary tools, and criminal mischief. Vieth's bond at the Montrose County Jail subsequent to his arrest was set at $5,000.
Burglary cases often have few leads or evidence left at the scene of the crime and are solved solely by many man hours of thorough investigation and diligent collaboration between patrol officers and detectives. With resources spread thin as a result of our recent upward crime trends, it is encouraging to be able to resolve high-profile cases such as these. The officers and detective who tirelessly worked on these cases are commended for their efforts and commitment to public safety.
In recent weeks, our community has seen an uptick in burglaries. The Montrose Police Department reminds citizens and community members, homeowners, and business owners to always secure their properties and report any burglaries immediately. Additionally, they advise that property owners itemize their possessions and document them by serial number and photograph in the event they fall victim to crimes of this nature.
As always, if anyone has any information about any recent burglary, they are encouraged to contact the dispatch center at 970.249-9110.
