City Offices to Close For Clean-up On “Montrose Day”
Montrose, CO — It’s time to clean up and beautify Montrose as the community’s founders intended over a century ago. City of Montrose staff will make time on Thursday, May 16 to clean up the city’s offices in observance of “Montrose Day.”
City facilities, including the Animal Shelter, City Hall, Public Works, and the Waste Water Treatment Plant, will close at noon on Montrose Day to allow an opportunity to clean up and clean out paper and electronic information, surplus materials, and debris from both inside and outside of city offices and facilities.
The Montrose Pavilion, Visitor Center and the Black Canyon Golf Course will remain open. Municipal Court, located at 107 South Cascade Ave, will close early that afternoon.
Police Department offices will be closed, however, officers will be on duty and responding to calls. City sanitation services, including trash and recycling pickup, will maintain their regular schedule for the day.
The original City Charter, crafted in 1913, states: “The City Council shall, by ordinance, designate a certain day in the spring each year to be known as “Montrose Day,” and shall, by notice and proclamation, request all the citizens of the said city to cease from their vocations, to close up their stores and places of business the same as on a holiday and devote the entire day to cleaning up the streets and alleys and public and private places of said city and to setting out shade and ornamental trees, beautifying said city, and improving the roads and streets of said city.”
In conjunction with this spring clean up, city staff encourages residents to observe “Montrose Day” with a similar cleanup and beautification tasks at home or their places of business. You can share your experience socially using the hashtag: #MontroseCO.
