Bowman Selected Mayor for 2019-2020 Term,
Bynum Selected Mayor Pro Tem

Montrose, CO –  The City of Montrose has a new Mayor. Mayor Pro Tem Dave Bowman was chosen by fellow city councilors Tuesday evening succeeding Roy Anderson for the 2019-2020 mayoral term. Councilor Barbara Bynum was selected by the council to become the new Mayor Pro Tem.

The annual mayor selection took place Tuesday evening during the council's regular meeting. The term of mayor is 12 months.

"I thank the community for so honoring me. I look forward to my year as Mayor, and many more years of service to the community I love," Bowman said.

Bowman was first elected to the council in 2016 and served a two-year term before his current four-year term that ends in 2022.

"Living in Montrose for over three decades has been a dream come true. I have been fortunate to raise two wonderful children who have gone on to successful careers. Now having two amazing grandchildren living four blocks away is a blessing," Bowman said. "My wife Kathy and myself have an even larger extended family who brings us joy on a daily basis. Professionally I’ve been an educator, Main Street business owner, music promoter/producer and for the past three years a Montrose City Councilor. Now Mayor. Yes, I have been truly blessed."

Bynum was appointed to fill a council vacancy in 2017 before running for a two-year term in the council's at-large seat in 2018.

“I am honored to serve in this capacity and the other councilors who have served before me have set a great example,” Bynum said.

Bowman thanked Anderson for his work as mayor over the past 12 months and mentioned a robust list of accomplishments during his tenure. Bowman, along with city staff, also gifted Anderson with a plaque recognizing his service as mayor.

City Manager Bill Bell welcomed the new mayor and mayor pro tem stating he was grateful to work alongside them making policy and shaping the future of Montrose.

Anderson's city council term expires in 2020 along with councilor Judy Ann Files. Councilor Doug Glaspell, also elected in 2018, is serving a four-year term that ends in 2022.
