New Riverbottom Restroom Facility Now Ope
Montrose, CO — New restrooms constructed in Riverbottom Park are now open for public use. A grand opening for the facility is planned for February 5 at 3 p.m.
New picnic tables, sunshades, patio lighting, and landscaping pieces will be installed as they are delivered. Ridgway Valley Enterprises, who was the sole bidder for the city contract, completed the project.
Ridgway Valley Enterprises designed and built the facility using local architects and subcontractors.
“Everything was completed with local contractors. That’s something significant,” said Public Works Director Jim Scheid.
City Councilors approved funds in 2018 to replace the decades-old restroom facility with a modern facility that sits above the Uncompahgre River’s floodplain. The new building is accessible to all citizens by standards set forth by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Each restroom also has changing areas, which were designed for people visiting the Montrose Water Sports Park adjacent to the new facility.
The new facility is equipped with upgraded power sources so the city can hold large events in the park — like the annual FUNC Fest — without electrical shortages.
The facility will be closed each night at dusk, using pre-programmed automated locks that will unlock the facility doors each morning.
The new restroom facility project is part of the conceptual Riverbottom Master Plan that includes upgrades to an existing sewer line to improve waste drainage from the park.
