Council Approves Funds To Replace 6800 Road Waterline

Montrose, CO –  City Councilors voted to approve funds Tuesday to replace a waterline off 6800 Road with a new, larger line capable of supporting continued growth in the City.

The total amount approved for the Waterline Replacement Project is $662,606.97, which also includes surveying and engineering support.

The City of Montrose’s recently updated water master plan identified the construction of a dedicated fill line to the City’s Sunnyside Tank from the main Project 7 supply line along Highway 50 as a priority capital improvement.

In response to the master-plan recommendations, the City constructed a new dedicated fill line between 6800 Road and the Sunnyside Tank in 2016.   The second phase of this project awarded on Tuesday will upsize an existing 12-inch waterline between Miami Road with Sunnyside Road along the 6800 Road alignment to a new 24-inch line.

“This project will help us to keep ahead of continued growth within the City of Montrose and maintain sufficient pressure and flow within this portion of our water system,” said City engineer Scott Murphy.

The low bidder, Williams Construction, was awarded the contract. The company also worked for the City as a waterline replacement subcontractor on the 2018 MoveMO project. The project design engineer, local engineering firm Del-Mont Consultants, was also hired from the project's budget to provide surveying support for the project.

With the exception of the final tie-in at Miami Road, all construction for this project will take place outside of City streets without any anticipated impacts to the motoring public.

The tie-in at Miami will result in a temporary closure of Miami for several weeks while the tie-in and restoration is taking place. Construction will start in early November and extend through early summer 2019.

Between the 2018 and 2019 budgets, approximately $675,000 was budgeted for this project.
