City Offices to Close For Clean-out On "Montrose Day"

Montrose, CO – It’s time to clean up and beautify Montrose as our founders intended over a century ago, as City of Montrose staff will make time on May 3rd to clean up the city’s government offices in observance of “Montrose Day.”

Municipal offices will close at noon Thursday, May 3rd for “Montrose Day.” City facilities including the Animal Shelter, City Hall, Public Works, and the Waste Water Treatment Plant will close for staff to take this opportunity to clean up and clean-out city offices and facilities from paper and electronic information, surplus materials, and debris from both inside and outside these facilities.

The Montrose Pavilion and the Black Canyon Golf Course will remain open. The city’s Municipal Court, located at 107 South Cascade Ave, will close early that afternoon.

The Police Department offices will be closed, however, officers will be on duty and responding to calls. City sanitation services including trash and recycling pickup will maintain its regular schedule for the day.

The original City Charter, crafted in 1913, states: “The City Council shall, by ordinance, designate a certain day in the spring each year to be known as “Montrose Day,” and shall, by notice and proclamation, request all the citizens of the said city to cease from their vocations, to close up their stores and places of business the same as on a holiday and devote the entire day to cleaning up the streets and alleys and public and private places of said city and to setting out shade and ornamental trees, beautifying said city, and improving the roads and streets of said city.”

In conjunction with this spring cleanup, city staff suggests residents take this opportunity to also take part in “Montrose Day” with a similar task at home. You can share your experience socially using the hashtag: #MontroseCO.
