Summer Jobs Available For Teens At Expo
Montrose, CO — Over 20 local businesses and organizations have pledged to work with area teenagers to find summer jobs and internships through the annual expo held at Montrose High School.
The expo is scheduled for Wednesday, March 7, from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the high
school’s cafeteria, located at 600 S. Selig Avenue, and is presented by the Montrose Youth Council as a way to connect teenagers with local businesses.
Summer job and internship opportunities, community service, and volunteer information are the focus of the expo. Local organizations participating this year include: Habitat for Humanity, Community Options, Colorado Youth Advisory Council, Montrose Recreation District, Montrose Workforce Center, Montrose Recycles, Montrose Regional Library, Ridgway State Park, Go Big Banners, Starbucks, U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, the Special Olympics, and PEER Kindness.
Organizations wanting to participate have until March 5 to reserve booth space.
Montrose Youth Council Mayor Kendrick Richardson said he’s watched the expo grow over the past seven years and has had friends and family members find work opportunities through the expo.
“I’ve applied for jobs at the expo, and I’ve been offered jobs through this expo,” he
said.
Richardson, a MHS senior, said he had found local businesses are wanting to find summer help earlier in the year, and the expo has been a great way for business leaders to meet young adults. He said local companies and municipalities use the expo to plan summer hiring efforts around.
“We’ve had more businesses and more organizations willing to come out and have their booths in our expo,” he said, adding that the youth council has adjusted the expo’s schedule to occur later in the school day as a way to increase foot traffic through the cafeteria.
“The past two years have been the best turnout we’ve ever had.”
For teens looking to provide community service or volunteer this summer,
Richardson said several companies at the expo have opportunities they are looking for.
Door prizes and free popcorn will also be offered.
