City of Montrose Opens Woodgate Realignment Project

The City of Montrose is pleased to announce the opening of Woodgate Road following the completion of the Woodgate Realignment Project. The goal of the project is to relieve traffic congestion on South Townsend Avenue by providing a direct connection to East Oak Grove Road as an alternative to Townsend Avenue.
Some final cleanup and concrete work will be taking place along the shoulders of the roadway over the next several weeks, however, the road will remain open during this work. Although the project was completed behind schedule due to some third-party utility delays, the project was still completed under budget and injury-free.
Originally envisioned in the city’s 2008 Comprehensive Plan, the Woodgate Realignment Project provides an alternate north-south route to Townsend Avenue and relieves some traffic congestion near the intersection of East Oak Grove Road and Townsend Avenue.
The city formally started the design of the realignment project in early 2020. This design included the completion of traffic studies and models to ensure the project was warranted, evaluate intersection performance, and determine the best alignment for the new roadway.
Once the preferred alignment for the roadway was identified, the city then worked to secure the necessary rights of way, which cross six different parcels of private property. Once the rights of way were secured, construction on the project began in the spring of 2021. The city would also like to thank the adjacent landowners for their partnership in making the project a reality, the general contractor, Mountain Valley Contracting, and their subcontractor partners who all contributed to the success of the project.
