Celebrating Main Street Campaign 2022
Public Invited to Submit Information Highlighting Historic Montrose Main Street
Montrose, CO — Colorado Main Streets boast vibrant businesses, inspiring public art, unique events, and iconic historic buildings. For the second consecutive year, the Colorado Department of Local Affairs Main Streets Program is launching a campaign to celebrate historic downtowns and hear from residents and visitors about the spaces that matter most in Colorado’s Main Street communities, including Montrose.
This campaign gathers information on the places important to locals and impressive to visitors through an online questionnaire and paper survey. The project celebrates the places and spaces that are authentically Colorado and creates a living product that supports heritage tourists and Colorado stay-cation enthusiasts in experiencing their Main Street destination.
Information from the 2021 campaign was used to create an interactive online map to explore the places locals recommend in each of the unique, official Colorado Main Streets - visit it at cdola.colorado.gov/main-streetcommunities. It also provides local preservation commissions with information about the buildings that matter most to their residents.
The campaign will be active during Historic Preservation Month (May 2022). While Historic Preservation Month celebrates historic places and the benefits of historic preservation through a series of events, this Celebrating Main Streets campaign expands that vision to underscore the economic vitality of historic downtowns and encourages the exploration of distinctive businesses, historic buildings, unique downtown events, and public art. The public can join in the celebration and follow the campaign on social media at #COMainStreet.
The Colorado Main Street Program, funded in part by a State Historical Fund from History Colorado, continues to provide official Main Street cities and towns assistance in building community engagement and support to attain their long-term visions for the future of their historic downtowns. The campaign is presented in partnership with Colorado Preservation Inc. (CPI), the Colorado statewide nonprofit for historic preservation, and with support from the preservation planning consultants at Pinyon Environmental.
