City Transitions Away From Accepting Green Waste
Montrose, CO — As of January 1, the City of Montrose will no longer accept green waste. The processing of green waste, defined as lawn clippings, garden plants, weeds, leaves, hedge/tree trimmings, and tree branches, has proven problematic for the city.
The decision to end this program was based on a careful analysis of the program that determined the labor costs associated with processing green waste were not sustainable for long-term fiscal stewardship. In addition, measures that have been taken to prevent abuse of the program have proven ineffective, leading to additional complications for Public Works and adding to the cost of labor and implementation.
Alternatively, residents can dispose of green waste at Waste Management, located at 67999 Landfill Road, or participate in the City of Montrose’s annual leaf collection and spring cleanup events. In addition, City of Montrose utility customers may contact Public Works at 970.240.1480 to schedule special pickups for a small fee.
