City of Montrose Announces 2020 Election Results
Montrose, CO —
Registered city voters returned thousands of ballots to decide representation to the next Montrose City Council as the 2020 municipal election concludes with one new member elected to the council.
With the largest field of candidates — 11 — since 1978, city voters returned 5,007 of 12,204 ballots issued for the election. The return rate for the spring election was 41-percent, the highest return rate since 2014.
In the City Council District 3 race, councilor Roy Anderson retained his seat earning 2,999 votes over David White, who recorded 1,782 votes.
In the City Council District 4 race, Dave Frank won the seat with 1,740 votes. Other candidates in the district, William Bennett received 1,090, Merri D. Brennecke earned 1,079, and Dave Stockton received 793.
In the City Council’s At Large race, councilor Barbara Bynum retained her seat with 2,438 votes, Yvonne Y. Meek earned 1,022, Ed Ulibarri got 796, Charli Oswald recorded 400 and Paul Arbogast totaled 218.
The District 3 and 4 seats are each four-year terms and the At Large seat is for a two-year term. The successful candidates will be sworn in at the April 21, 2020, City Council regular meeting, and a new mayor will be selected by vote of the council as provided by the City Charter.
Ballot measure 2A, City of Montrose referred measure granting a franchise to Black hills Colorado Gas Inc., passed with 3,280 in favor and 906 opposed.
Election results will become official after the canvas of votes is completed. A notice of the official election results will be published in the Montrose Daily Press after the abstract of votes is completed.
