[ARCHIVED] Applications Sought For City Council Vacancy

Montrose, CO — Applications are being accepted for a vacancy in the District II City Council seat. The deadline to apply is Thursday, May 20, 2021, at 6 p.m.

As set forth by the City Charter, the City Council will formally vote to appoint a replacement within 30 days. The procedure used to fill vacancies on the City Council is the same as the process used to appoint new members to the city’s Planning Commission and the Historic Preservation Commission.

Applicants are asked to fill out an application and submit a letter of interest to the City Council. The council will then interview potential candidates before holding a formal vote to appoint a new councilor on June 1. In accordance with the City Charter, the District II seat will be on the ballot for the 2022 General Municipal Election.

To be eligible for appointment, applicants must be a resident of District II for at least the past 12 months, must be eligible to register to vote, and must have a background free of felony convictions.
