The City of Montrose has begun a river restoration project along 0.65 miles of the Uncompahgre River. The project will stabilize the riverbanks, restore a more natural stream system, improve aquatic and riparian habitats, and will provide enhanced river access and fishing opporunities for the public.
Construction began earlier this month. The new alignment of the river has been cleared of vegetation, and work is progressing to stabilize the new river bed. This includes bank stabilization, channel shaping, and riparian restoration of the old stream bed.
Come down to the N 9th trail head at the intersection of N 9th and Mayfly Drive to check out the construction process. The river remains closed north of N 9th through the construction area, but the connect trail remains open.
