[ARCHIVED] Throwing An Outdoor Party In A City Park? Here Is Some Helpful Info

Montrose, CO — As the weather grows warmer and the opportunities to host outdoor celebrations become more frequent, the City Clerk's Office would like to share some helpful reminders for using city parks and shelters for social gatherings.

This time of the year is the busiest for the clerk's office as its staff works to process reservations for park shelters ahead of graduation season.

One helpful reminder is that reservations are not required to use a park shelter, however, residents who have made reservations for shelter have priority, which means that anyone using a shelter without a reservation may be asked to leave to accommodate a reservation.

Here are some facts to keep in mind when planning an outdoor celebration:

• Shelter reservations cost $25.

• A portion of a park, outside of a shelter, can be reserved at no cost.

• Parks with shelters include Riverbottom, Cerise, Rotary, LaRaza, Sunset Mesa, Chipeta Lake, and Lions.

• Alcohol is not allowed in city parks without a permit. An alcohol consumption permit allows the consumption of beer and wine in non-glass containers within 20 feet of the shelters at Riverbottom, Cerise, Rotary, LaRaza, and Sunset Mesa. The cost of the permit is $50, with a $100 deposit.

• Reservations for events involving over 75 people and/or advertised to the public require an Event Permit.

• Bounce houses and other temporary structures require an additional $20 fee, a $100 deposit, and a certificate of liability insurance.

• Park hours are from 5 am to 11 pm.

• Overnight camping is prohibited.

• For reservations contact the City Clerk's office at 970.240.1430.  Reservations can be made over the phone with a credit card. A reservation form and payment must be received before a reservation is placed on the calendar.

• A chart of park amenities is available on the city’s website: www.cityofmontrose.org/DocumentCenter/View/38600/City-Park-Amenities
