Montrose, CO – Due to the retirement of Montrose Police Chief Tom Chinn and subsequent appointment of Commander Blaine Hall as the new chief, the application deadline for the Public Safety Citizen Advisory Committee, (PSCAC), has been extended.

As of Monday, November 5, the city had collected 18 applications to the PSCAC. The City Council is planning to interview applicants during the work session scheduled for Monday, December 3, at 11 a.m. The council will then vote to appoint members to the committee at a regular council meeting later in December.

Following the official appointments, committee members will be asked to attend the Montrose Police Department's annual Citizens Police Academy beginning January 7, 2019.

The academy is held every Monday through mid-March. Academy participants will learn about the history of the police department, traffic laws and criminal investigation procedure, school resources, animal services, the drug task force, dispatch, firearms training, victims advocate and the department's hiring process.

Public Safety Citizen Advisory Committee members will not be required to attend each Monday class. A condensed class will be provided to PSCAC members.
