Yvonne Y. Meek

Yvonne MeekI am a southern California native; born in East Los Angeles. As a finish carpenter’s daughter, I seem to have gravitated toward the construction industry most of my life. I have lived in both Los Angeles and San Bernardino Counties. I have worked for two award-winning commercial architectural firms as both secretarial staff support and as a part of the Technical Resources Team, responsible for creating project proposals and compiling construction documents for schools, hospitals, amphitheaters, and residential projects. I have also worked for two commercial asphalt paving firms in southern California. I have also been employed by nonprofits and governmental entities in California and Colorado; Calvary Chapel West Covina (West Covina, CA), Calvary Chapel Golden Springs (Diamond Bar, CA), Montrose Christian Church (Montrose, CO), The Dolphin House (Montrose, CO), Colorado Division of Water Resources (Montrose, CO), 7th Judicial District Probation Department and the Combined Courts (Montrose, CO), Montrose Chamber of Commerce, and The Montrose Pavilion.

I have been married to Colorado native Harris Meek since 1991. We moved to western Colorado in 1993 to raise our family on the Meek family ranch in Maher, CO. We have three adult children; Ken (26), Julia (23), and Ian (21). We moved to Montrose in 1996 where Harris has been a luxury home builder with projects in Telluride, Ridgway, Ouray and San Miguel County. Our family has owned property (Meek Ranch, 100+ years, sold in 2014) and businesses in Colorado (Meek Ranch Inc 50+ years, The Lark & Sparrow LLC 2015-2015). In 2014, we purchased and renovated the Masonic Temple Building at 511 East Main St., Montrose, CO ... no gifts, grants or city deals!

I attended Colorado Mesa University studying Hospitality Management and am currently enrolled in Trinity College & Seminary Student to finish my education. I have been a lifelong performing musician; a singer/songwriter. I produced my CD/album in 2009 and have also promoted concerts at my venue, The Lark & Sparrow. Though music is my favorite thing to do, short of moving to Nashville, Montrose isn’t exactly the place to get rich or famous.

I have no political experience but have been involved in the downtown, the heart of Montrose, for many years and desire to see all of Montrose thrive through the economic challenges of today.

I have volunteered and served in many church, music/arts or civic organizations:

~ Ouray County Performing Arts Guild

~ Montrose Arts Council

~ Main in Motion Board Member

~ Montrose Downtown Development Authority Board Member

~ Montrose Chapter of the Nashville Songwriters Association

~ Women’s Business Alliance

~ Participated in the Montrose Leadership 2009
