Broadband Initiatives

“Six years ago when I first campaigned for Montrose City Council I would speak about broadband as important to our community.  Many people would question me as to why. Now the community is anxiously awaiting high speed and connectivity.  We have come to realize how essential broadband has become in both our business and personal lives.  Economic development for our region is blooming due to the promise of being a Gigabit City in the very near future.  Our numbers of non-tethered workers increase daily.  The Montrose region is a mecca for recreational uses and those non-tethered workers are realizing they can achieve jobs where they like to play. Our region is "remote" and does not have easily accessed ground transportation.  Consequently, businesses and residents rely on our great airport and - now - a great way to telecommunicate." ~  Mayor Judy Ann Files - April 6, 2017

City of Montrose is seeking to become a Gigabit City

On April 1, 2014, 74% of our citizens voted to allow Montrose to recoup its rights to provide telecommunication services. These rights were restricted when the Colorado General Assembly, in 2005, passed legislation requiring that local governments obtain voter approval before providing advanced telecommunication services. This legislation, in essence, considered that the manner in which local communities address their telecommunications needs is not a local issue but one of statewide concern. The successful passage of Measure A was the first step to reaching the goal of ensuring our city is not limited when it comes to taking full advantage of the services that are available via the Internet.
