Planning Services
Overview
Planning Services facilitates and manages the city's development process. Staff from this department evaluate development proposals and report to the Planning Commission on subdivisions, zoning, special requests, and master plan updates. The department also works on short and long-term planning goals, special studies to support the needs of the city, and building permits and inspections.

Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) provided grant funding, in partnership with the City of Montrose, to prepare a master plan for ten miles of the Uncompahgre River.
With the assistance of public participation, the project team provided specific recommendations for acquiring land and funding enhancements to the riverway corridor. The plan identifies opportunities for trail dedications and other recreational opportunities that may be accommodated with other tools, such as annexation and subdivision developments,along the river corridor. The planning effort prioritized river segments for more intensive project development and examined how to best implement a trail connection between downtown and existing city park property next to the river.
