Bob Nicholson
Bob Nicholson
Bob Nicholson’s construction company built projects in Montrose and Delta in the 1980s and 1990s, so he knew that Montrose would be the best place in Colorado to raise his two younger children. In 1994, he relocated his business and family here from the Front Range. His son, Matt, and younger daughter, Katie, still live on the Western Slope and are raising their families here.

“Karen and I agree that Montrose is a great place to live,” Bob says. “Montrose offers a good balance between living in a small town and being part of a dynamic, growing city.”

Bob graduated from the University of Colorado with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering and a minor in business administration. He is a licensed professional engineer in Colorado. He owned and operated a successful construction company, NCE, for 30 years. With his company he built many facilities for communities in Colorado, including municipal projects such as town halls, sewage treatment plants, and recreation centers. During those years of working with the cities’ staffs and councils, he gained valuable knowledge of cities’ infrastructure, budgets, and processes as well as developing creative solutions to problems, a skill that will be used in City Council.

Even while working, Bob stayed active with his kids by coaching soccer. A highlight of his child-rearing years was traveling around the country with Matt and Katie in a motor home for a year and home-schooling them along the way.

Since retiring from his construction business, Bob has done civil engineering projects and been a managing partner in a Montrose housing development. He served on the Montrose Planning Commission for five years where he learned first-hand the challenges of building a better Montrose.

His family includes his wife, Karen, three adult children, and four grandchildren.  Bob’s experience in financial management and his familiarity with city infrastructure, planning, and budgeting enables him to work with citizens to develop Montrose as a regional hub and a desirable place to live and work today and in the future.
