Meter Reading
Overview
The City of Montrose has over 7,500 water customers. Water meters are read on a monthly basis and customers are billed monthly.

Water meters measure water usage in thousand-gallon increments. Meters are read remotely using an electronic device that receives a radio signal from the meter.  The meter reading from the previous month is subtracted from the current reading to determine the amount of water actually used.

Questionable Readings
Water usage can increase significantly due to:
  • leaking toilets
  • landscape watering
  • increased number of occupants
Unusually high water usage readings that cannot be attributed to these or similar factors should be reported to Utility Billing so that the problem can be investigated further.
