New Community Garden to be Dedicated During Earth Week

The City of Montrose, Valley Food Partnership, and LiveWell Montrose Olathe invite the public to a ribbon cutting ceremony on April 26, 2014, at 9:00 a.m. for the Niagara Community Garden located at 2424 East Niagara Road.

In recognition of Earth Week and to help bring the community together, City staff, in collaboration with the Valley Food Partnership, has constructed its first community garden. We invite the public to participate in a ribbon cutting ceremony, followed by placement of garden soil within raised garden beds.

Completed garden plots, including raised beds, soil, and irrigation, are available to the public through the growing season. The garden is fenced and includes wheelchair accessible garden plots. Gardeners are responsible for providing tools, plantings, and any necessary soil amendments, compost, or mulch.

The Niagara Community Garden provides an outdoor gathering place that promotes healthy living and nutrition in a small community environment. Forty-two (42) garden plots are available in a variety of sizes for growing fruits, vegetables, herbs, or flowers. Plots may be reserved by individuals, families, community service groups, or businesses. See the link below for more information about how to participate.

Although the garden was constructed by City of Montrose staff, the City is seeking community volunteers to form a garden committee to operate the garden with City support. The goal is to provide a garden that is managed by local gardeners to meet community needs.
