Broadband Initiatives

“Ensuring our citizens have access to robust broadband service is as much a quality-of-life issue as providing clean drinking water, safe neighborhoods, and affordable housing. If the private sector is unable or unwilling to meet our community’s need for broadband services, it is imperative we as a municipal government act to meet this need.” ~Mayor Bob Nicholson, October 20, 2014

City of Montrose is seeking to become a Gigabit City

On April 1st, 2014 74% of our citizens voted to allow Montrose to recoup its rights to provide telecommunication services. these rights were restricted when the Colorado General Assembly, in 2005, passed legislation which provides that before a local government may provide advanced telecommunication services, a majority of voters must approve.  This legislation, in essence, considered that the manner in which local communities address the telecommunications needs is not a local issue but of statewide concern. The successful page of Measure A was the first step to reaching the goal of ensuring our city is not limited when it comes to taking full advantage of the services that are available via the Internet.
